A lesson in diversity: Charlestown students ski and learn about differences
CHARLESTOWN — Charlestown Middle School 8th-grader Erin K. Cody likes to dress “goth.” She wears black clothing, thick-colored eyeliner and T-shirts with graphics such as bleeding spiders.

Erin says she likes her wardrobe because it’s comfortable, yet she also knows some of her peers “label” her solely because of her clothes. And that, Erin says, is “stupid” because “no one gets to know the person behind the clothes.”

Celebrating Diversity
MERRIMACK - February is Black History Month.

But does it have meaning for a town of nearly 26,000 people, which, according to the 2000 census, had fewer than 200 black residents?

Conference puts focus on diversity
MERRIMACK - How white is New Hampshire? The answer depends on where you’re standing.

New Hampshire may be 96 percent white, but the 4 percent minority population isn’t spread evenly across the state, said Dennis Delay, director of special projects at the New Hampshire Workforce Opportunity Council Inc.

Conference aims to show ways to encourage workplace diversity

MERRIMACK – When you think of racial diversity and President Bush, two names – and often only two names – come to mind: Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell.

“I’m here to tell you I’m not only the third (person of color) in the administration,” said Steven Nesmith, who serves as assistant secretary for the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations.
